Brief History of  La Paz, Tarlac

Like most town in the past, the history of La Paz, is called somewhat vaguely because it was dominated largely with legend and folklore tainted with concomitant tragedy and mystery. Early chronicles stated that there was once really an old pueblo called “camajuan” situated right along bank of CHICO RIVER bordering the province of Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.

At one time, a great flood from the overflowing river swept the entire pueblo at all unholy hour when the populace was fast as sleep. By the time the town people come to their senses there was not a piece of ground left in its wake of picture of total devastation claiming scores of human lives.

Out from the bitter experience, the inhabitants of Cama Juan had to evacuate the place for a better site. The said old place is up to this referred to as “BAYANG INIWAN’.
The first choice after the inhabitants of old Cama Juan left for good was typical Pilipino community nestling amidst verdant field “matayumtayum”.

Before the turn of 19th century and trough the initiative this time of a local poet and writer who was destined to become one of the ranking leader of the Philippine revolution. General Francisco Macabulos, and one Captain Mariano Ignacio, a more centrally located site had again been selected for the future town, eventually to be known as the town La Paz.

In all this period. La Paz existed only by name for it was a built in barrio of the town Tarlac Upon to 1892 when it was rechristened La Paz, in honor of the Patron Saint Nuestra Senora de La Paz y Buen Viaje.
